Transverse current response of graphene at finite temperature, plasmons and absorption

چکیده
We calculate the linear transverse current current response function for graphene at finite temperature and chemical potential. Within the Random Phase Approximation, we then discuss general aspects of transverse plasmons beyond the local response such as their dependence on temperature and on the surrounding dielectric media. We find, e.g., maximal confinement of this mode for a homogeneous dielectric media with refractive index n ' 40. Confinement can further be enhanced by placing the graphene sheet inside an optical cavity, but there exists a critical width below which no transverse mode can be sustained. For zero doping and finite temperature, there are no welldefined transverse plasmonic excitations in contrast to the longitudinal channel. We also discuss the absorption of electromagnetic radiation in single and double-layer systems for s and p polarizations and point out that the theoretical limit of 50% is reached for s-polarized light with incident angle of θ ≈ 89.

Nonlinear Terahertz Absorption of Graphene Plasmons.
Subwavelength graphene structures support localized plasmonic resonances in the terahertz and mid-infrared spectral regimes. The strong field confinement at the resonant frequency is predicted to significantly enhance the light-graphene interaction, which could enable nonlinear optics at low intensity in atomically thin, subwavelength devices. To date, the nonlinear response of graphene plasmon...

In this paper, we explore the linear response of one dimensionalquasiperiodic structure based on Fibonacci sequence composed of silicon dioxide, polystyrene and graphene materials. Here, a graphene monolayer is sandwichedbetween two adjacent layers. The numerical results are obtained by using the standardtransfer matrix method. Due to the presence of graphene sheet in eac...
متن کاملUnconventional plasmon-phonon coupling in graphene
We predict the existence of coupled plasmon-phonon excitations in graphene by using the self-consistent linear response formalism. The unique electron-phonon interaction in graphene leads to unconventional mixing of plasmon and optical phonon polarizations. We find that longitudinal plasmons couple exclusively to transverse optical phonons, whereas graphene’s transverse plasmons couple only to ...

We predict the existence of transverse electric (TE) plasmons in bilayer graphene. We find that their plasmonic properties are much more pronounced in bilayer than in monolayer graphene, in a sense that they can get more localized at frequencies just below ~ω = 0.4 eV for adequate doping values. This is a consequence of the perfectly nested bands in bilayer graphene which are separated by ∼ 0.4...
